This painting is a copy from the first half of the 17th century, or rather the 17th, of Zurbaran's Child with the Thorn, a work replicated several times by the master and his workshop. This painting is of excellent quality and comes from a Spanish school contemporary with, or slightly later than, the Spanish artist, known as the Spanish Caravaggio.

The dimensions of the work are 119cmx97.5cm with the frame, while without it they are 104cmx83cm.
The colors are identical to those used by Zurbaran in his work on the same subject, housed in the Prado Museum. What changes, and makes this work unique, is everything else, including Jesus's features and the still life background.

Zurbarán traveled to Madrid for the first time in 1633. On this occasion, he received the title, which was merely honorary, of "painter to the king." He was partly responsible for the series of the Labours of Hercules in the Buen Retiro Hall. He was proclaimed an "outstanding painter" in 1629 before the city hall of Seville.

The work has been recently restored and therefore requires no further work. It also features an old lining on the back.

The preservation conditions are excellent.
